SOUTHBRIDGE SPORTS. SATURDAY'S MEETING. , Good cycle racing was witnessed at Southbridge on Saturday, when the Athletic Club's annual sports meeting, postponed from Labour Da.", was held in the Ivecrcation Ground, under perfect weather condition!. On account of the day not being a full holiday, «ome of the athletes who had entered were unable to keep their engagements, with the result that the fields were small. Most of the cash cyclists, however, attended, and the racing in this division was keen. There were good entries in all the events except the amateur cycling races, and these will probably be eliminated from the programme next year. The best professional cycling performance for the day was made by S. A. Jordan, who received a special prize of f5 5s for most points. The amateur cycling points' trophy was won by J. Robinson. The riders found the track in good order, but at a sharp bend at the north end several went over the embankment in the final lap of a race, and R. E. Chamberlain was slightly injured, receiving cuts. A special train from Christchurch was not well patronised, but there was a good attendance of the public of Southbridge, the gate takings totalling i4O. Mr W. J. Walter, president of the North Canterbury Centre of the Sew Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, and Mr P. C. Lucas, secretary, wore present. The meeting was capably managed by the officials. Mr J. Griffin is president of the club, and Messrs I'. A. Strack and D. W. Hayes secretary and treasurer respectively. The following were the results :-■ CYCLING. One Mile—Firi*t heat: -J. F.
