Rewanui State Mine. Owing to lack of shipping facilities the Rewanui State Mine will be idle to-morrow. Greymouth, Water Supply. During the past few days the Grey river has diverted its course above the Omoto pumping station, with the result that during dry weather spells the sta:tibn fs'stirrounded'with a vast bank of' shingle, thus making it difficult to maintain an adequate supply for pumping purposes. Efforts have been made on several occasions to divert part of the river alongside the pumping station by excavating a channel at a point about half a mile above the station but as soon as the river is flooded the channel becomes blocked with a fresh bank of shingle. The problem of how to coax the river back to its former channel is becoming a difficult one for the Borough authorities. As the outcome of the dislocation of the water supply on Monday members of the Borough Council, accompanied by the engineer, made an inspection of« the Borough reservoir and the pumping station yesterday morning. It is understood that the installation of an extra suction, pump was recommended with a view to making the gas engine pumps available in the event of a breakdown to the electrical pumping plant. Blaketown Accident. Enquiries from the hospital authorities this evening elicited the information that the condition of the boy Noel Smith, who,was accidentally shot through tie head by a pea-rifle at Blaketown last Sunday, shows an improvement. Subsidence at Omoto. A slight subsidence of the railway line and the County road was caused by the recent floods, at a point near the one mile peg at Omoto. The subsidence, which took place when the river was nearly back to normal, was not sufficient to affect either road or rail traffic, and repairs, were- quickly effected. Anniversary Services.
