P. AND T. V. COMBINED PRESS. The newly-formed Post and Telegraph Club played a match against a Combined Press Club team on the Boys' League Ground, yesterday atferuoon, and opened their career auspici'ously with a well-deserved' win by 07 runs. Post and Telegraph went in first on a batsmen's wicket, but tho opening batsmen were-kept very quiet by tho Press bowlers. W. v Cpwlin livened up the rato of scoring and reared for a brightly compiled 39. W. McLaiichlan 43, and W. Pitzsimmons 18, batted in stubborn style, but L. Olnrkson 21 (retired), and A. Moray 18, by good leg hitting, quickly ran into double figures. Tho team's total was 164. W. P. Guiney and A. Stacey each secured two wiuknts for the newspaper men. The latter's innings commenced badly, four wickets being down for 24 runs. .T. Mahoney, by vigorous hitting, saved his side from a iollapse, and'was the only doublefigure scorer with 52. Murray, Watson, and Davie were the most successful bowlers for tho winners.

VETERANS V. 'VARSITY CRYPTICS.

The Veterans beat 'Varsity Orypties by 15 runs at South Hagley Park. Veterans 131 (White 21, Brook 18, Butler 18, Dunn 23 not out; Haig took four wickets and MacGrogor two); Cryptics 116 (Haig 33,'Nanson 18, Russell 20, MacGregor 15; White took four wickets, Jones three, Thompson two). ARRIVAL OF COACH. J. Newman, who has been appointed coach to the Canterbury Cricket Association, arrived in Ohristchurch yesterday from Hampshire (England).
