A social organised by the members of the Boys' and Girls' Clubs of St. Bartholomew's Church, Kaiapoi, which was held in the Sunday Schoolroom on Monday evening, was most successful. In Spite of the weather conditions there was a good attendance, and a very _ pleasant evening was spent in dancing. Several amusing dialogues', Songs, and recitations were given by members of the two clubs. Those contributing to the programme were:— Mrs P. Hunt, Misses H. Childs, O. Gray, K. Josephson, R. Forbes, G. Gordon, Messrs J. Jowers, S. Papprill, E. Lunn,iand A. Gray. Music for the dancing was provided by Mesdames A. Gray and Chas. Clarkson.

WAIAU. The competition for the Amuri Cricket Shield was advanced another stage on Saturday afternoon, when a match was played between the Waiau and the Waikari senior teams on the ground of the former. Waikari batted first and compiled 73 runs, M. Macfarlane 20, Dr. Miller 14, B. Dalgety 13, and G. L. Eutherford 11 being the chief scorers. This comparatively small score seemed beyond the ability of Waiau to obtain when seven wickets had fallen for 33. runs, but then D. L. Eutherford commenced to "punch" the bowling to good effect, with a result that 105 was on the board before the last wicket fell, Eutherford being unbeaten with a vigorously compiled 65, which score included three "sixes." For Waikari, M. Macfarlane and K. Matson bowled best-as did D. L. Eutherford and Cullen for Waiau.

An illustrated lecture on 1 "Sheep, their Diseases and their Care," under the auspices of tffe Amuri A. and P. Association, will be given in the Library Hall, on Friday evening by Mr E. J. Lukey, Government "Veterinarian. On Saturday afternoon, Mr and Mrs W. H. Cole entertained fifty children at. their residence in honour of the seventh birthday of . their elder son. With hammock-swings, games, and various other- forms of. amusement, the children spent a very . full afternoon, and returned to their homes brimming over with excitement at their afternoon's enjoyment.

ROTHERHAM. ..A: very enjoyable dance, given by the Hall; Committee, was held in the Rother--1 ham Hall. Miss ' Danielson supplied the music, and Miss Mcintosh and Mr D. Davison played extras. Mr H. Palmer was M.C. AMBERLEY. The festivities in connexion with the Jubilee of Holy Innocents Anglican Church were commenced on Saturday evening with a dinner. At this reunion were present many of the old identities who have been connected with the church since its establishment in 1877. The seating accommodation; at the tables was fully taxed. The vicar, the Rev. H. J W. Knights, occupied the chair and proposed the lipyaf toast. The toast of "Past Vicars" was proposed by l F. H. Courage. The Rev. W. F. Knowles responded, giving an interesting account of his experiences in the parish. Mr V. J. Rhodes proposed the toast of "Visitors and Former Parishioners'' and the following gentlemen replied:— Messrs Tabley, Mockett, and T. Baker. "Church Officers and Vestry" was proposed by the. Rev. W. F. Knowles, and responded to by Messrs Coleman. Courage,'J. Smith, W. Dermott, J. Croft, and H. Busch. The vicar proposed "Our Brethren of the Free Churches," the Rev. W. B. Cuming (Methodist), replying in a very interesting speech. Mr J. F.' Grierson proposed the last toast, that. of "Our Vicar and Vicaress." During the evening songs and duets were given by Mrs H. McLean, and Messrs W. Thompson and E. T. Shier. Miss S. Rhodes played the accompaniments. .

Jubilee services were conducted on Sunday, the Rev. W. F. Knowles preaching in the morning, and Bishop West-Watson in the evening. At the evening service a large congregation gathered and listened to an inspiring sermon by his Lordship. Next Sunday Archbishop Julius wil] preach at the evening service in continuation of tlie Jubilee celebrations.

OXFORD. The 46th anniversary services of St. Columba Presbyterian Church were taken by the Moderator, the Rev. W. R. Hutchison, Rangiora. Owing to the inclemency of• the weather the attendances were smaller than usual. At the close of the morning service a congregational meeting was held to consider the working of the'charge from March of next year. It was unanimously agreed to ask the Presbytery to recommend that Mr Wood be appointed for another year if that course did not prevent him from accepting promotion. In the test prescribed by the Assembly's Committee for men on the Home Mission staff under 4;">, Mr Wood passed sixth on the list.

BALCAIRN. A very enjoyable euchre tournament and dance, organised by the' ladies committee, were held in the Public Hall. The proceeds, which amounted to £0 10s, aro to be devoted to buying furnishings for the hall. The euuhro prizes were won by the following Ladies: Mrs F. James 1, Mrs M. Flem)n£ 2, Mrs H. Wimsett 3; mystery prize, Mrs L. Smith. Men: Mr J. >Sangster 1, Mr S. Ashworth 2, Mr W. Haigh 3; mystery prize. Mr Hurley. A beautifully decoratd Christmas cake, given by Mrs J. Fleming for competition, was won by Mr J. Binney (£>efton) Several novelty dances were held, the winners being: Lucky spot waltz, Mrs Penfold and partner; Monte Carlo, Miss Niven and partner ; balloon dance, Miss M. Keiclier and partner; number dance, Miss M. Kelcher and partner; Cinderella dance. Miss Allen nnd Jjartuer. Mr J. Fitzpatrick, on behalf of the ladies' committee, tihanked all ""ho had given prizes and helped towards the success of the evening. Those who gave prizes were: Mesdames Ray, Dermott, C. Smith, O'Connor, Misses Dron, Morrison, and Messrs H. Janiieson, L. J_ Jamieson. S. Ashworth, Sarich. Hunter, Free, and Dermott. The music for the dance was supplied by Mr and Mrs Sangster. Misses IX Habeood, A. Fitzpatrick, M Fleming, •B. Fleming, and Messrs T. McGallon and G. Hales, jnn.

OKAIN'S BAY. The official opening of the new tennis courts had to be postponed owing to the wintry conditions which prevailed on Labour Day. The Okain's Bay dairy factory is now handling 3500 gallons of milk daily, which is about 200 gallons less than last year. At a meeting of the Loyal Hand of Friendship Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U.j £24 maternity bonus refunded was received from the district secretary. The N.G., Sister Boleyn, reported that a presentation had been made to Bro. H. J. Tibbotts, who had removed to Oxford. Mrs Bradley (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs T. G.,Wnre.

LE BON'S BAY. Whilst Mr G. Mcintosh was mounting his horse a few days ago the animal took fright, and Mr Mcintosh fell heavily on the metalled He was taken to the Akaroa doctor, when it was found that he was badly bruised and shaken. His many friends will be pleased to learn that he is now well on the road to recovery. The weather has been bitterly cold since Sunday, the bills'at the back of the bay being covered with snow. PREBBLETON. Another successful euchre tournament promoted by the Church Social Committee was held in the Parish Hall, when the prizes were awarded to Mrs J. Anderson, Mrs W. KolkO'Malley, and Mr L. MeGill. The next evening's play will conclude the sessions for the aggregate prizes. A concert, the proceeds of which are to be devoted to the purchase of a gramophone for the school, was held in the Public Hall, when there was a very large attendance. The programme, comprised entirely of items by the children,, was. a .lengthy and varied one, and the youthful perform- ' ers gave ample evidence of tne careful preparation they had received at the. hands of • the ' teaching staff— Misses Adam and Boyce and Mr' L. Owen. At th© conclusion of the concert the'chairman; Mr J. W. Kingan, moved a vote of thanks to tbe teachers, for their work in. connexion with the entertainment.. Rye," seniors; club-swinging, Dorothea Kingan; "Dolly's Doctor," Jack Varley and Nellie Pflet; "The Sleeping Princess,!' infants; recitation, Stuart Kingan; chorus, "Sweet and Low," senior pupils; play, "Umbrella Land," juniors; laughing song, seniors; "Ten Little Nigger Boys," junior boys; "The Kitchen "Orchestra," seniors; playlet, "Thank You," infants; "Jing-a-Ring," seniors. .

LEESTON. The Leeston School Committee conducted a euchre tournament and dance in aid of the School excursion fund on Monday evening. The weather had a marked effect upon the attendance, but. the evening passed pleasantly. Prizes' for cards were won by Miss N. Jackman and Mr H. McClure. Mrs W. C. Shilton played the dance music, Misses Millar and Fussell assisting -with extras. It is the intention of the Committee to hold another social shortly. SOUTHBRIDGE. • ! . There was a splendid attendance at the last of a series of euchre and dance socials held by the Southbridge Athletic Club. The first prizes were won by Mrs A. J. _ Beamsley and Mr J. Hantz, while Mrs Payne and Mr P. Harney took second prizes. Mrs Alex. Hannah won the ladies' aggregate prize and Messrs D. Strez and J., Parkin tied for the second prize. Macdonald's Orchestra supplied the music for the dance. The Athletic Club decided, on Monday evening, to hold its . postponed F-ports meeting on Saturday next, when the programme will be the same as that fixed for Labour Day.

DARFIELD. A /ball organised by the spinsters and bachelors of the Darfield district was held in the Memorial Hall, which was tastefully decorated with baskets of larch and silver birch suspended from the ceiling. In the lounge, bowls of flowering cherry, and on the supper tables, scarlet henchera tulips formed a very delicate and pretty-effect. The proceeds, which amounted to £23, were in aid of the hall funds. The joint secretaries,' Miss M. Redfern and Mr L. Westwood, and a committee of willing helpers deserve great credit, for the success of the gathering. Excellent music was supplied by Bradford's Orchestra (Christchurch). Extras were played by Misses Morgan (Westport) and L. T. Westwood. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs C. 0. Redfern and H. Westwood. A dainty supper was provided and served by the spinsters and bachelors. The Moonbeam concert party, Christchurch, gave au entertainment iu the • Memorial on Monday evening. Unfortunately the weather was exceptionally rough, which had a detrimental effect on thp attendance. ■ The proceeds were in aid of. the St. John's and Darfield Cricket Clubs. The following programme was contributed:—Song, Doris Doherty; banjo selection, Messrs Woodward and Leech; recitation, Alice Greenlees; song, Joe Edwards; clobsWinging, Madge and Rita Austin; recitation, Fred. Farrant; mandoline solo, Mr Grofski; step-dance, Miss Caldwell; j accompanist, Miss Ring.

EYRETON. The final euchre tournament and dance cf the season was held in the Eyreton Hall on Tuesday evening, and was largely attended. The winners of the euchre tournament were: Ladies, Miss Baynon 1, Miss Hassall 2; men, Mf N Cherry 1, Mr E. Cherry 2. Mystery prizes went to Miss E. Bailey and Mr R. Hassall. The six nights aggregate resulted in the prizes being won by Miss 0. Baynon and Mr T. Lewjs. The successful "couple in the Monte Carlo waltz were Miss H. Wilson and Mr H. Winter. Music for .the dancing was provided by Miss Lord, extras being played bv Misses E. fcnnth and P. Paget. SOUTH MALVERN. The weekly euchre tournament was held on Tuesday evening, there being a very good attendance. The winners were:—Ladies: Mrs Hurrell 1, Mrs Hamilton 2. Men: Mr Cotterill 1, Mr L. King 2. Last week's winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Derrett 1, Mrs Burkitt 2. Men: Mr Jewell 1, Mr Percival 2.
