JUNIOR HOUSE SURGEONS.
HOSPITAL BOARD'S. GRIEV ANCE. The .resignation of junior house surgeons at the Christ church Hospital without giving sufficient notice was referred to by- tho chairman .(Mr 11. J. Otley) at yesterday 's meeting- of the 2vorth Canterbury Hospital Board. "It is desirable to emphasise the fact that although these gentlemen are appointed for a period of one year aud receive their salary each month, yet they do not feel it incumbent upon them to give the customary notice," the Hospital Committee's report said. Mr Otley said that the position was a most unsatisfactory one. The Board bad no control over these officers as they had refused to sign any agreement as to termination of agreement. They did not -give the Board any consideration at all.
' Mr J. K Archer said that as ladies and gentlemen the house surgeons should give the Board the same consideration as they received. Mr A. T. Smith said there was such a. thing as a gentleman's agreement, and if they did not recognise that there was nothing more to be said. Mr Otley: The Board is not fairly dealt with by these young gentlemen, and we have no means of preventing their leaving without giving adequate notice. The discussion then lapsed.
