Tho whitebait season is now in full operation in tho lower reaches of the Waikato River, where the waters literally teem with the diminutive fish. At the moment it is quite an important industry, and a small army of workers, both Europeans and Maoris, is spread over a wide area. It is said that the poorest catch gives quite a good day's pay, and in instances fishermen have made as much as £2O a week. Most of the fishermen sell their catch on the spot, launches being used to collect tho fish. The whitebait not required for local consumption and markets at hand is sent to the canning factory at Tuakau. Recently two boy 3 with nets, fishing near Ake Ake, filled two benzino tins with whitebait in an afternoon, and sold them for 30s a tin. Catch the next mail with a Christmas Number of the "Weekly Press." Your friend will be very grateful. —6
