PERSONAL. (srrciix, to thb pbiss.) GREYMOUTH, October 26. Mr and Mrs J. MeQuilken and the Misses MeQuilken, of Ashburton, who are visiting the West Coast, left this morning for the Franz Josef Glacier. The death of Miss Kate Currie, a former resident of Ross, took place at the Waitemata Hotel, Auckland, where she has been employed for some years. Deceased was a daughter of the lato Mr John Hunt-Currie, a former Mavor of Ross, and a sister of Mrs W. J. Ca'ullield, of Christchurch, and Messrs James Currie of tho Railway Department, North Island, and W. Currie, at present in the Grey district. Miss Currie was well known in Greymouth.

Ia Bankruptcy. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estato of Mrs Catherine Louisa Schaef, draper, of Greymouth, was held this afternoon, the Deputy-Official Assignee (Mr A. Naylor) presiding. Bankrupt's statement showed tho amount owing to secured creditors, as £ll6l. 2s 6d (less estimated value of socurities, £1350), to unsecured eredlrtors, £677 3s 7d. Assets were: Stock at Greymouth £SOO, cash it hand £1 16s, furniture £6O, motor-car £BO, Burplus from secuiities in hands of secured creditors £BB 7s 6d: total £730 3s 4d.

lhe principal unsecured creditors were Kaiapoi Woollen Co., Christchurch, £23 lis 2d; Bing, Harris, and Co., Christchurch, £46 19s 4d; Sargood, Son, and Ewen, Christchurch, £103; P. Khouri and Co., Wellington, £23 12s Id; Brodcrick and Co., Wellington, £6l 12s 3d; Ross and Glendining, Wellington, £3O; W. J. Ross and Co., Wellington, £25; W. Stevenson, Wellington, £25; Abbot, Armstrong, and Howie, £4B 4s lid; Mrs A. Pascoe, Greymouth, £22; Mrs G. Martin Greymouth, £25; Guido L. Schaef, Greymouth, £47 13s 7d: C. Parfitt, Greymouth, £23 5s lid. Mr J. W. Hannan, who represented bankrupt, ./Said there were also book debts amounting to £2O Cs. The stock had been taken on cost figures. The chairman said he hoped the assets Would realise 20s in the £, but with his personal experience in selling drapery stocks the creditors would be lucky to get one third of that amount. Mr Hannan said the reason Mrs Schaef had filed was that her business had fallen off recently, competition having become keener with the opening of new shops. The chairman said he believed the Tainui street property should be worth £BOO, but he did not think the other properties would realise much. It was decided to call for tenders for purchase of drapery stock, also for tho motor-car. Bankrupt was allowed to retain her furnituro. Tho Deputy-Official Assignee was commissioned to make arrangements to offer tho properties for sale. • Bankrupt said she was anxious to pay all her creditors 20s in the £. One creditor ajt the ine ting said Greymouth was over-catered for so far as drapery was concerned. Thomas William Morgan, of Taylorville, butcher, has been adjudged bankrupt. A meeting of .his creditors will be held at Greymouth on November Ist. Accident. Miss Pauline Bourke, a member of the Hotel Dominion staff, received severe injuries to her arm this morning, when Blie fell while carrying a quantity of crockery. She lost much blood, and j was admitted to the Grey Hospital in (a semi-confieious condition. Her condition is not serious- and was much [ improved this evening. ;■ f Sunday Cricket.

The West Coast Cricket Association, at a special meeting last evening, by a majority of six to three, rescinded the motion carried Jit the annual general meeting, "that no official recognition be givon to Sunday cricket." Sunday cricket will therefore be in full swing this reason. Coast Eoad. The truth of the old saying: "It's an ill wind that does not blow somebody good," is borne out by the contractor for the Mabel Bay bluff section of tho Grey-Westport coastal road. The storm last week expedited the work wonderfully, the storm water acting as a sluicing agent and bringing down more road material than fifty men could havo done in the fcame time. It is expected to 'have the contract completed by the end of the year. Rating. The Cobden Town Board held a poll in its district to-day on the question of whether the voting system of the Board should be" changed from the capital value to the unimproved value. The voting resulted in the change being carried by a majority of more than, two to one. It is coutended that the altera- | tion will make for a fairer levy in view of the fact that about half tho sections in, the district aro as ye,t without buildings on them. Details of tho poll aro as follows: —For 83, against 34; informal 1. Hookey. The hockey season concluded to-day with the final for the Bover Cup between Star (the challengers) and Mawhera. Tho game resulted in favour of Mawhera by twelve goals to nil. For Mawhera tho scorers were: Misses H. Loach (3), D. Leach (2), B. Milligatt (2), N. Furness (2), N. McGrath (2), and A. McKnight. Mawhera have an unbeaten record for the season. Whitebait. The best whitebait run of the season took place in the Hokitika river to-day, and the fishers on the riverbank reaped a good harvest. Many of the trenches gave from eight to ten tins each for the day, a return that will be very welcome. Wastport Resident Injured. While _ cutting wood yesterday, Mr Fred Skilton, of Westport, slipped on the saw, inflicting a severe wound on his arm, necessitating medical treatment.
