MR AMERY'S TOUR
VISIT TO MILDURA. A BUSH PICNIC. (BY CABLE—I>RESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND ,N.Z, CABLE ASSOCIATION.) SYDNEY, October 25. Mr L. S. Amery's party is visiting Mildura. Mr Amery opened a bridgo over the Murray river, forming another link connecting New' South Wales witn Victoria, the cost being shared by the two States. At a bush picnic the visitors had tlvuir first taste of: Australia's national beverage, billy tea, made over a stick tire in-an open billy. Mr Amery and Mrs Amery assisted in feeding the fire. All the party insisted on drinking tea from tin pannikins without milk, so that they would bo able to say they had tasted io under real bushman's conditions. •They professed that.they really enjoyed 'it.
KEEN INTEREST IN LAND SETTLEMENT. (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) PERTH, October 25. N One result of >lr L. S. Amery's visit has been to-arouse a keener interest in land settlement. It is officially stated that never before has there been such a keen demand'fof land. Many people are coming from the Eastern States to settle. The Government proposes to open up over 100,000 acres of agricultural country in the Esperance District; making room for thousands of settlers. It would be able to settle the country in five years if it adopted a big policy for water supply, railways, and roads, and made the land available with cheap money.
