CHRISTENING PARTY. At S. Barnabas's Church, Fendalton, yesterday afternoon his Grace Archbishop Julius administered the Sacrament of Baptism to two of his great-grand-children, the twin sons of Mr and Mrs Derrick Gould, Fendalton road. The babies were christo ed Robin Derrick, and Arthur Humphrey, and the Godparents were Miss Hester Gould, Mrs J. H. Watherston, Sir Charles Campbell, Mr Gerald Gerard, Mr John Moore, and Mr John Edmonds (Dunedin). After the ceremony at the Church, Mr and Mrs George Gould, the babies' grand-parents, entertained a number of relatives and a few friends at their home "Avonhank."

INSTRUMENTAL CONCERT. Many beautiful bouquets were presented to the soloists at the particularly enjoyable orchestral and instrumental concert, given at the Choral Hall last night by the advanced students of ; Miss Irene Morris and Mr Harold Beck. Most of the feminine members of the orchestra, including a dear little girl with a big black bow in her fair hair, wore black frocks, brightened with touches of gold or silver, or big colourful shoulder posies. Miss Irene Morris wore black satin and lace with a carnation red girdle to match her red Spanish shawl embroidered in cream; Miss Nellie Ellwood wore black georgette with tiny sleeves of silver lace, and wide vari-coloured ceinture tied with narrow silver ribbon; Miss Thelma Cusack, lilac taffeta, with inset, front panel of floral taffeta, and Vandykes of narrow silver ribbon in the scalloped skirt; Miss Marjorie Smith, graceful frock. of black velvet, with jet and brilliant ornament; Miss Valmai Livingstone, black georgette and black lace brightened with large red flower on the shoulderj Miss Phyllis Porter, black georgette with panel of gold brocade and a multi-coloured plastron defining the waist line in front; Miss May Draper, black crepe de chine with red rose on the shoulder; Miss Pearl: Stringer, black crepe de chine with narrow bands of embroidery in floral design; Miss Marjorie Chapman, black satin mousseline with belt of brilliants.

BIBLE CLASS PARTY. Owing to the inclement weather on Labour Day a picnic arranged by the Clarence street Methodist Bible Classes for Pleasant Point had to be abandoned. However, the kind invitation of Mr and Mrs Staples to spend the afternoon and evening at their home in Clyde road was gratefully accepted. Games and competitions were enjoyed till late. Those present were: Misses I. Staples, E. Staples, M. Duder, R. Barrel!, E. .Fairbairn, J. Mac Lean, and G. Miles; Messrs Fairbairn, Brighting, Barnett, Duder (2), White, and James. After supper, Mr Jack James, on behalf of those present, thanked Mr and Mrs Staples for their thoughtfulness, and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" closed a very pleasant evening.

DANCE AT SWANNANOA.

The dance promoted by the Swannanoa Football Club was ono of the most successful dances held in the Swannanoa Hall this season, and drew a large attendance of cricketers from the Swannanoa club and other well-wishers of the club. Special attention had been given t6 the decorations of coloured streamers, and the supper, under the supennfendence of Mrs W. McHugh was excellent. Prizes presented by Mr H Winter for the Monte Carlo waits were won by Miss McHugh and Mr Cosgrove, and thwe for the lucky-spot waltz by visitors from Christchurch. Tor those not interested in dancine a eucbre tournament was held in the supperroom. Music was provided by Miss Knight Mr H. Winter, Misses J. Lord and p,~t g ,fts to thei flub was a handsome cake presented by sir Blackwell, of Kaiapoi. This and other donations helped to swell the proceeds to a.considerable sum. Messrs a* Winter and M.
