TRAM TRACKS.
PROPOSED RELAYING. REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL. With regard to the proposal of the Christcliurch Tramway Board to relay its tracks along Oxford terrace, between "Worcester street and llaglcy avenue, the "Water Supply and "Works Committee reporicd to the City Council last night as follows: — "As the levels of a portion of the terrace are considered unsatisfactory, it would be advisable to have them adjusted prior to the laying of a permanent track. A sum of £7OOO is included in the schedule of works to be carried out during the first year, under the proposed Highways Loan, but it is understood that the Board intends to commenco operations on the Terrace within a period of three months. Provision was made in the Unemployment Relief Loan for the re-laying of "Walthaiii Bond in some permanent material but, as the result of the decision of the Railway Department to construct an ovcrbridgc at the railway crossing in that road. Ihc. work was not put in hand. The Committee has authorised the City Engineer to approach the Public "Works Department with a view to obtaining tho Department's approv 1 of the transfer of the amount so released (£3100), to enable it to be expended in the readjustment of tho levels of Oxford terrace so far as tho amount available will allow, and provided the City Engineer is able to make satisfactory arrangements with regard to meeting the provision of the loan concerning 60 per cent, of he expenditure being on labour, the Committee recommends that he be authorised to proceed with the adjustments above referred to, The clause was adopted.
