BUTTER-FAT PRICES.
TO THE EDITOB or THE PBESS. Sir,.—Recent Auckland papers quote the September supply pay-out for but-ter-fat .for several of the co-operative companies operating in that province. The Norwood, Te Awamutu, Kakepuku, and Brentwood! companies paid Is 6d per lb, the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company Is 5Jd per lb.: It.should be noted that the companies quoted are co-operative and would' distribute any surplus at the end of the season among suppliers by way of a bonus. Comparing with a local pay-out' of Is 4d for the same period, it appears that Canterbury butter-fat docs not enjoy the high price and reputation of Canterbury lamb. The lower prices do not tend! to pooularise the dairying industry in Canterbury. Month after month Auckland's pay-outs exceed Canterbury's. Is our local product inferior, or arc the- manufacturing and marketing systems at fault? The matter is worthy of investigation— Yours, etc., CANTERBURY BUTTER-FAT.
