When the committee reports back the Board will also take up the proposed sale of two Atlantic coast lines, namely, the American-West Africa and the American-France lines.
INTEREST IN LONDON. (AUSTRALIA* AND H.S. CAS LB AggOCIAIIOX.) LONDON, October 24. Conference Line circles do not disguise a keen interest in the decision to sell the Commonwealth line. They are at present very anxious, on account of the varying prices and, reports, to know the precise conditions under which the ships will be offered. Their view is that the ships must be permitted to run under British registry and rates of pay, and that the buyer must not be bound down never to raise rates, # in view of the evermounting costs in Australia. They also seek the withdrawal of the condition that the buyer shall not be associated with the Conference Line, and-in this connexion they point out that the Commonwealth Line, for sov"eral years, has fixed freights and other conditions of business in conjunction with the Conference.
