OBITUARY.
HON. MR MULCAHY. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN, AND K.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) HOBART, October 24. The death lias occurred of the Hon. Mr Mulcahy, former Minister for Lands Federal Senator. [The Hon. Mr Mulcahy was born in Limerick, Ireland, in 1850, and accompanied his parents to Australia in 1854. He entered politics in 1891, and was Minister for Lands and Works in the Tasmanian Assembly in 'two Parliaments, and a member of the Commonwealth Senate in 1919.]
MONSIGNOR POWER. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELE3RAM.) HAWERA, October 24. The death, occurred at 7.30 o'clock this morning, after a short illness, of MonsignOr Patrick Joseph Power, who had been in charge of the Hawera Catholic Parochial District for 30 years He came to New Zealand from Ireland shortly after his ordination, in 1887, and was curate for six years at the Basilica, Wellington, being successively in 1 charge at Patea and Waipawa, to which .he was appointed in "1897. He was perpetuated rector of Hawera, controlling the district, which has' since developed into, one of four centres. • ■ "" ....-.■••■
Since being in Hawera, Monsignor Power had twice been given preferment, being appointed and shortly before the occasion of his silver jubilee of his ordination, a few years ago, being raised to the dignity of Monsignor. He represented the Wellington Diocese at the Australian Congress at Melbourne in 1904. and in Sydnev in 1909.
Monsignor Power was an inspector of Catholic schools from 1895 to 1908. He was a zealous, loyal worker, and much beloved by his parishioners.
