MR AMERY'S VISIT.
CHRISTCHURCH ARRANGEMENTS The' reference in yesterday's issue -of The Pkess to the visit to Christchurch i f the Eight Hon. L. S. Amery, Secretary for State for the Dominions, did not mention sohie important details. The idea of a public address originii'ed with-the Imperial Mission (now the Canterbury Branch of the Empire Industries Association). About the middle of July the Imperial Mission, through Sir Henry Page Croft, got into communication with Mr Amcry on the subject, the net result being that "nng definite could be arranged as the Et. Hon. Mr Coates had in 'and Mr Amery's itin. avy. It was desired that lr Amery should inaugurate the branch of the Empire Industries Association in view of the fact that he is chairman of the Empire Marketing Board, which, to a great extent, he was the originator. It was alr n felt that an opportunity should hn afforded as great a number as possible of rnsidents of Canterbury to hear Mr Amery, the member of the British Cabinet to visit the n whilst still holding Cabinet rank.
At a meeting of representatives of bodies interested in Mr Amery's visit, tlio suggestion nade by the Victoria Leag that Mr ..nd Mrs Avery should be the guests of honour at a garden party v agreed to. Climie, organiser for the Canterbury Progress Lea, ue, got in touch with Mi Coates regarding the arrnrgenie-ts for Mr Amery's visit to Christchurch, and he was ask id to take, in hand those arrangements. The whole matter will be gone into to-morrow, with the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer- representatives of the Em--pire Industries' Association, the' Colonial Institute Branch, the Victoria League, the English Speaking Union, the A. and P. Association, and the Progress League.
