A TRIBUTE IN VERSE.

Though entitled "KedcliUs, " the following verses, it will be noted, also celebrates Sumner's charms: KK DC LIFTS. Where the cliffs are red and broken and steep, And the hills in the background high. Where the land-locked waters he stretched asleep, And the quaint Shag Rock stand.-guard to keep Where the seabirds circle and cry. Where the soft, low moan of the outer sea. Breaks inland over the bay, Where beauty is plighted to melody In the floral arbors of phantasy. Where the headlands taper away. There are themes that come that I fain would write Did Poesy loosen my hand; As I watch'lhc skiffs with their sails of white, That the zephyrs fondle in dreamy (light To woo them away from the land. The matter of fact io romance gives place, And the blood in our veins runs fast; For the salt of the sea is in our race, And thrills to the delicate sweep ami grace Of"the yachts that go gliding past. A ship, a girl, and a garland of flowers, Arc held as the beautiful three; And these in the scene of my song are ours, In a setting to tax the range and powers Of the sweetest minstrelsy. To the lulls, the sea, and the road between; To the rocks where the creepers cling; To the beauty blending of brown and green, With the blue to temper the golden sheen, My bouquet, lovo gathered, I bring. T. E. L. ROBERTS. December 10th, 1923.
