MR AMERY'S VISIT.
v LECTURE MAY NOT BE GIVEN. On account of the fact that there is no suitable hall available in the City on November 30th, when it was proposed the Eight Hon. L. S. Amery, Secrotary of State for the Dominions, should give a lecture during his visit to .Christchurch, it is possible that the locture will not take place. Mr Amery is a vice-president of the Royal Colonial Institute London Council, and "st May the Christchurch branch of the Inatitute cabled to the London Council asking if it would be possible for Mr Amery to speak on some subject of publie interest when in Christchurch. A desire to entertain Mr Amery was also expressed, and a reply was received stating that the invitation had been recorded. On advice received from the Prime Minister as to the date of the visit, the Institute booked the Caledonan Hall for November 29th. When the Prime Min' tor was informed of this ho replied that the visit would not take place until Nov. 30th, the advice as to the .29th having been due to a clerical error. As it is not now possible to secure a suitable hall on November 30th, a meeting df the Christchurch 'ranch of the Institute, the Victoria League and others interested, will be hold on Wednesday next, to discuss the local part of the itinerary. The Prime Minis' r is being communicated with in the meantime in the hope of having tho itinerary altered so that Mr Amery will be in the city on November 29th."
