A CHURCH PARADE. fine, tribute to the work carried out by the Sk John Ambulance • Brigade was paid by the Rt. Rev". Bishop WestWatson in the Cathedral; yesterday morning. ••'Members of the brigade paraded at headquarters at 10.30 o'clock, and one hundred strong inarched to the. Cathedral,' led by Colonel Barclay and Major Gray. Special hymns were sung and the lessons were read by Dean Carrington. Bishop West-Watson in his address traversed the' history bf the St. John Ambulance movement, omnhasising the eight cardinal points, pointing out that each point of the star badge had a meaning. .
ANNUAL COMPETITIONS. On Saturday evening the 1927 competitions of the St. John Ambulance Brigade for the Canterbury,, Nelson, Mariborough, and West Coast districts were commenced. Major A. L. Gray (assistant commissioner) was in charge, and was assisted by Miss F. L. Cooper (district officer). , Saturday's programme comprised a parade of. all - competitors at.the Brigade rooms, where examinations were held in oral first aid, oral home nursing, etc. There was a laige number of entries, and the competitions were continued until bite in the evening. Onlv one result ■ was available on Saturday, and that was the inter-sub-district first aid division for a challenge cup. 4 which was won "by the Timaru sub-district. Dr. J. R. Thomas was the examiner. The competitions will be continued to-day. '
