THE NEW PARTY.
WELLINGTON CONFERENCE MB DAVY TO BE ORGANISER. (r-BISS ASSOCUTIOX TELSGBAM.) WELLINGTON, October 22. "A most satisfactory conference of the United Party has just been concluded," said the organiser of the new Party (Mr Davy) when interviewed this morning. "There was a fine attendance, and the conference was handled in a businesslike manner. .Representatives from all parts of the. Dominion, drawn from the ranks ol the supporters of the Reform, Nationalist, and Liberal Parties met and knew each other for the first time as members of the organisation. Certain politicians have stated that the personnel of our organisation is known to them, but, if that i's so, they most certainly knew more than'those attending the conference when it opened on Tuesday morning. , . . , •'The chairman, in his opening address, said that political unrest would be allaved by the knowledge that a united movement had been started and considerable progress made in linking up the forces of those opposed to the. extreme Socialist Party , and to the present Administration. the United Party," he said, 'did not ta.ke up the attitude ot 'Join us, accept our policy or let our executive control,' but said rather 'Let us get together, consider, and adopt a policy that stands for the best interests of New Zealand; let us have a United Party representative of all the progressive forces,' and this attitude was in complete accord with the views of the representatives present. "The broad principles of the policy were confirmed," continued Mr Davy, "and rules to govern the organisation were adopted, subject to confirmation at the next conference, early in the New Year. Officials and executive to hold office until the next conference were elected. "It was decided to immediately open negotiations with all groups, organisations, or factions desiring better government to link up in a united movement. The headquarters of the United Party will be in Wellington. The complete success of the result achieved on Thursday will soon be apparent to the public. A Dominion campaign will be commenced immediately." Mr Davy's appointment as Dominion organiser was confirmed.
