PRISONERS SENTENCED.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, October 21. In the Supreme Court prisoners were sentenced by Mr Justice Ostler. George Tavendale, a clerk, fortythree, tor theft of £IBO from the Post and Telegraph Department at Wanganui, was admitted : to two years' probation and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. His Honour took into consideration accused's twenty-eight years of honest service, the fact that he had made a clean breast of the offence and hail already suffered heavy punishment in the loss of his position and good name.' Other cases were dealt with as follows : Roland Edward Whippey (32), for bigamy at Gisborne, -two'years' hard labour. Thomas Victor Crease, a traveller (41), theft of £656 from "Whiteaway and Co., eighteen months' gaol. Huia Kai Eehu (34), false pretences (three charges), reformative detention not exceeding four years. Alfred Victor Boyce (30). indecent assault on small girls at Palmerston North, four years' hard labour.
