BEAUTIFYING THE TOWN The gala day celebrations of* Aahburton owe a great deal to tho enthusiasm and energy of the "Advance Ashburton" Association. Shortly after Ht formation the Association decided t» make Labour Day the "big" day of th« year, and to bring to the beautiful Domain, visitors from, every jparttof th» surrounding country. The "greater part of the funds obtained on Gala Day ar« devoted to the primary work of th<» Association, the laudable business of further beautifying a town that is already'gift with a wealth of "trees and gardens;'. .' . East ["street reserve, which runs along the "township front, parallel with th» railway line, bears striking witness as to the results of the Advance Ashbnrton Association's labour,! but th,e visitor to the Domain itself will'find,^ih.special reserves and gardens,' further Vvjdene* of the work the Association has acconv plished in raising^.and' expending wisely such money as comes its ytLji■) [:' "The Advance AshbnrtouvAssociation was formed'nearly .five jyears ago, its.main object.being.'to .beautify our town, and there is no'doubt but that the Association,; has more thatf> justified its. existence^'?>,said'MrW/H, Amos to The • Pb'ess. representative. *oßV>r tho last four- years Labour :DayV T iaai been set aside by the Association and galas have been arranged. From these efforts a sum of over £2OOO has been raised 1 , and it is anticipated that this year's effort will result in further, augmenting the funds by at least £600., The thanks of the Association are due to the Gala Comniitteo for their generous help year after' year, and also to the < general public for the interest and enthusiasm they have shown. The Association has many works in view, and as funds permit, and in this connexion the Association welcomes any suggestion or recommendation froni residents or others interested as to any.;;tt6rksbrimprovements that would- beautify the- towii."
