THE WEATHER. Meteorological observations taken at tlio Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, at 9.3U a.m. and 5 p.m. on October 20tU:

Forecast. Moderate to fresh westerlies northward Of Kawhia and East Cape, and strong northerly to westorly winds to gales elsewhere, backing to south-westerlies, and decreasing later; the weather unsettled, cloudy, and squally, with rain south of New Plymouth and Napier, moro especially in tho western districts, but fair to cloudy elsewhere. The barometer is unsteady, with a falling tendency.
