ROWING.
CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association was held last night, Mr F. D. Kosteven presiding. Present wore: Messrs !R. E. Nightingale, G. H. Hobbs, F. L. Booth (Union), A. T. Evans (Avon), F. W. M. Cowlishaw, R. J. Hobbs (Canterbury), J. H.; Williams (Cure), H../W. Ryder (Lyttelton), W. Whittington (Timaru), H. H. Berry, and. W. G. Godfrey. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chaiiman stated that regattas held last season had been successful. He regretted ■to see that the membership had decreased, which showed that interest in rowing was waning. : The riversweeper was doing excellent work. He had asked that the sweeper do not work on. October 29th (opening day), and arrangements had been made for the sweeper to cease work at mid-day on Friday, October 26th. The annual report and . balance-sheet, as already published, were adopted. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr F. D. Kesteven; vice-presi-dents Messrs W. S. Godfrey, W. Duggan, and R. E. Nightingale; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr R. J. Hobbs; delegates to N.Z.A.R.A., Messrs B. A. Marris and 0. F. Turner; hon. auditor, Mr G. L. Berry; delegates, Messrs A. R. Jacobson, R. Jorry (Akaroa), L. Davis, A. T... Evans .(Avon), F W. M. Cowlishaw, R. J. Hobbs (Canterbury). J. H. Williams. P. H. Wylie (Cure), H. W. 'Ryder. T. Oakley (Lyttelton), D. Neave, A. Sutherland (Sumner-Redcliffs), S. Dann, W. Whittington (Timaru), G. H. Hobbs, and T. L. Booth (Unioh). Mr R. J. Hobbs wib appointed the Association's delegate to attend the annual meeting of the N.Z.A.R.A., to be held at Wellington on October 27th. With reference to having the eight-oar boats out on opening day, Mr R. J. Hobbs «tated that he h3d inspected the river, and the course did not seem to be any worse than last year. It would certainly be an added attraction. ' , It was decided to give the Opening Day Committee permission to have one eight out on opening day if the course was suitable. The chairman, secretary, and Mr Nightingale were set up as a sub-committee to control the eights for the season. The pro-ramme for the Lyttelton Harbour Board's Jubilee Regatt3, which was adopted by the Association, and which will be held on December 17th, is as follows:—Senior, junior, maiden, and youths' pair oar; youths single sculls (with coxswains); senior, junior, mniden, and youths' double sculls. It was decided? that the races should commence at the dock end and finish at the Gladstone Pier.
