MAGISTERIAL.

TUESDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender found drunk in Colombo street was fined 10s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. OUT OP WORK. George Bollman, aged 18, was'charged with being 1 an idle and disorderly person, in that he had insufficient lawful means of'support Sub-Inspector Mathew said that the accused had landed in New Zealand in January, 1927, and been unable to obtain any work. Ho had got into some trouble in the north over a horse, which he had converted to his own use. It had been suggested that he should remain in the Salvation Army Home until work was found for him. The defendant was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. CHARGE OP ROBBERY. Thomas Reid, alias Smith, alias Olsen was charged with robbing James Joseph O'Malley of 7s 6d in money, and at the trme of the robbery using personal violence to O'Malley. Mr W. F. Tracy appeared for accused. O'Malley gave evidence that on April 19th he left the New Zealander Hotel at 6 p.m., and in Southwark street met two men, one being a man named Brown and the other the accused. _ The accused punched him and knocked him down, then going through his pockets and taking three halfcrowns. The two men then went away, and witness later laid an information against Reid. , Charles Brown, in evidence, said that he was in Reid's company on the night in question. Ho corroborated the evidence of O'Malley as to the meeting and assault, but did not know if Reid took any money from O'Malley. The accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was refused. REMANDED. Alan Lancelot Beaumont was charged with theft of a pair of gloves, valued at 21s. He was remanded untii August 22nd. SENT TO BORSTAL. A youth of 17 appeared on several charges of obtaining goods by false pretenccß. Mr Malley appeared on his behalf. The Magistrate said that he could not see his way to place the youth on probation in view of the offences he had committed. The youth was committed to the Borstal Institute at Invercargill for two years. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) CIVIL CASES. Paterson and Co., Ltd., v. A. Cross, £l2 Us 6d; same v. A. E. Vincent, costs only; J. Hay and J. A. Wain v. Mrs S. Hands, £2 13s. JUDGMENT SUMMONS.

On a judgment summons Amos McKechnio was ordered to pay Coulls, Somerville, Wilkie, Ltd., tho sum of £9 3s 7d, in default ten days' imprisonment; Walter Middleton was ordered to pay W. H. Benson £8 5s 6d, in default ten days' imprisonment; J P. Burns was ordered to pay A. J. White, Ltd., the sum of £9 16s 6d, in default eleven days' imprisonment. PLAINTIFF NONSUITED. Thomas Green (Mr J. B. Batchelor) claimed for possession of tenement and £lB los from George Yeatman (Mr H. S. J. Good"pia'intiff was nonsuited and costs were allowed'to defendant.
