Labroelepsis dalmani was the name of an insect imported into New Zealand to combat the golden scale, which de-stroys-oaks. Mr J. Young, Curator of the Domains, received a supply from Dr Tillyard, of the Cawthron Institute, about three years ago, and was the first in New Zealand to hatch out the insects, but they proved a failure, The golden scale, like the cockle scale affecting bluegums, consumes the sap of the growing tree.
