—: —• (PRESS iSSOCUTIOH TELEGBAM.) . PALMERSTON NORTH, January 21. The Dominion Croquet Championship Tournament was commenced to-day in glorious weather. The competitors were welcomed by the Dominion . president, Mr C. Caugbley, who remarked that the entries were a record, and the standard of the competitors equal to that of previous years. The surprise of the day was the.defeat of Mrs Johnson (Christchurch) and G. C. Caughley (Wellington) by Mrs Gambriell (Manawatu) and Colonel Hume (Nelson), 26-0. The latter pair are comparatively hew players as far as tournaments' are concerned, while Caughley has held the open singles championship, and his partner has been three times lady champion.
