SYSTEM IN VICTORIA.
PRAISE FOR CHRISTCHURCH
The Hon. Dr. S, Argyle, Chief Secretary of State and Minister for Health of Victoria, and Mr R. J. Love, In-spector-General of Hospitals, and Secretary to the Charities Board, Victoria, arrived in Christchurch* yesterday morning.
Speaking on the system of hospital work in Victoria, when interviewed by a representative of The Pre3s yesterday, Dr. Argyle said that an Act that was passed three years ago created n Board to deal with Governmental grants. The Board consisted of two standing committees, country and metropolitan, and dealt with questions of common policy. There were three sources of hospital revenue in Victoria. namely, public subscriptions, patients' subscriptions, and Government grants The Board had 'power to advise the Government as to the distribution ot irrants, and to assist in every way in the administration of the hospitals. It was proposed to establish in Melbourne a new hospital in conjunction with the University of Melbourne, incorporates: a medical school and a research institution under one roof. Dr. Argyle said that Professor R. J Berry, Deßn of the Faculty of Medicine and Professor of Anatomy at Melbourne University, would meet him at Auckland, and together thev would ,8° to America as the guests of the Rockefeller Foundation. He also intended to enquire into the method of rcsearcn work overseas. Mr Love, who paid a visit to the Christchurch Public Hospital yesterday, had many complimentary remark" to make regarding the working of that institution. "The organisation appears to,be reallv excellent.'' he said. He was find that all the repair work was earned out on the premises, and added that the work was very well done. Both Dr. Argyle and Mr Love teaie Christchurch to-day for Mount Cook and Oueenstown.
