AUSTRALIAN BAND.
N BETURN VISIT,
Since Iho Australian Commonwealth Silver Band visited Christchurch over ' twelve months ago it has travelled through Victor.a, South Australia, Western Australia, South Africa, England, Wales,' Canada, and the United Slates, arriving back in Auckland on January Sud of this year. During that time the hand has played together nearly seven hundred times, with the result that tho Auckland "Star" and "Herald consider the band's combination perfect. in conversation with Mr Gladstono Hill, director of publicity lor tho band, who arrived in Christchurch last week to make tho necessary ararngements for the return visit of the band, it was learned that the Canadian and American Press was unanimous in stating that no band ever heard on tho American continent had created such a sensation as had the Australians. The Third International President of Rotary, himself a musician, Mr James Davidson, of Calgary, Canada, says, in a letter to Mr Hill: "We have had many fine bands here, both from overseas and from tho United- Slates, and I wish to say that I consider sincerely that no band has ever made a more favourable impression than tho Australian Band." To add to tho value of that statement it must be mentioned that Mr Davidson was responsible for bringing to Canada last July tho Coldstream Guards Band, at tremendous expense, and is also the head of a big circuit of exhibitions which engage the finest bands procurable every year. The Christchurch season 1s only a short one, commencing on Thursday, February 3rd, in the Caledonian Hall. Box plan opens at The Bristol on the 27th.
