Personal. Mrs H. Wiggins (Head street) is spending a holiday with Mrs Stockdale (Timaru). Mrs H. C. S. Jamießon (the Esplanade) is staying with her daughter, Mrs W. E. Earnshaw (Dunedin). Mr and Mrs J. S. Wearn have gone to Dunedin, to join the Moeraki, en route for Australia. Mrs J. M. B. Crawford is spending a few days in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs A. Douglas and family are spending a holiday with Mrs Clayton (Arnold street). Mr and Mrs r H. Y. Widdowson (the Esplanade) have returned after spend-, ing a few days at Arthur's Pass. Miss Marion Saunders (Head street) has returned from Otira. _ Mr and Mrs Douglas Smith and family have returned to their house on the Esplanade. Mr and Mrs C. S. Thomas have returned home after a few weeks at Sumner. .. _ ■ , Mr and Mrs Cecil Quane are afc present staying at Sumner. Visitors at the Marine Hotel include: and Mrs Keith Parkinson and family (Kaituna), Mr and Mrs J. B. Cuningham and family (Papa*™), Mrs Montague Lewin, Miss H P Thornton (Christchurch), Mrs Burke (Leeston), Mr and Mrs A. 0. Britten (ChristCh Mr h and Mrs T. W. Retallick and family and Mrs L.T. Longuet and son are' camping at Purau. . Mrs J A. Eussell, of Redcliffs, is leaving for a tour of the North Island, next Tuesday, and will be the guest of Mrs G. Little (Taihapo). Mr J A. Russell leaves next Saturday for'a few weeks' holiday at Hani mer.

Life-Saving. Mr S. K. Bassett presided over the vc- ■.u' meeting of the committee of the Sumner Branch of th« Royal LifeSavii ' Society. Present: Messrs J. C. McDonald} J- S. Young, J. Browne, C. K. Taylor, V. G. Spiller, B. Pye, and k! B. Allen. The Canterbury Head Centre wrote asking for funds-to assist in sending representatives to compete for the Nelson Shield. The sum of £7 10s was granted. ■ •■ , . It was decided to enter a team for the Kcateven Cup competition at Taylor's Mistake on February 6th, Mr 0. Ji. Taylor to undertake the training. •:-Mr F J. Glackin's resignation from the committee was held over till the next, meeting. It was decided to discuss alterations to the men's dressing rooms at the next meeting. Croquet. A most enjoyable tournament was hold on. the Sumner lawns, on Tuesday, when a large number of the lady members of the Club assembled to take part in the competition. Some very exciting games were played, the winners evenfua g lly being:-Senior button: Mrs Eaß t 70; runner-up, Mrs Glackin 62 junior button and prize, Mrs Clark 81, runner-up, Miss Wood 76.
