BOROUGH COUNCILS.
RANGIORA. Tho ordinary meeting of tho Rangiora Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr 11.. Mcintosh) and Cm. C. I. Jennings, P. Horrell, O. W. Tyler, R. H. Bailey, C. S. Ayerß, J. Lindon, and J. Cathcrwood. , The chairman referred to the visit ot tie Minister for Health in connexion with tho water and drainage of tho borough. The following applications for auctioneers licenses were granted:—Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., National Mortgage and Agency Co., N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Association, L. P. Devlin, and Matsonand Co. Billiard room liconses were granted to O. Chisnall and V. H. Pulley; lodging-house licenses, Mrs J. Mathews and Misses Johnston; vehicle licenses, W. T. Henry, A. Hendy, and W. C McCracken. The Works Committee reaommtnded that tho Swimming Club bo notified that they were responsible for the conduct. oi people using the path during club lioura, and that they wire also responsible.for the safety of children whom they allowed to enter the baths during club hours. They also recommended that fresh tenders he called for kerbing and channelling Park street, and that the growth on the riverbed reserve be burnt off at the first favourable opportunity. The recommendations were approved. The Finance Committee recommended that •the purifier covers at the gas works bo repaired. They also recommended that the term of the renewal loan of £BOOO to be raised by March Ist .be for twenty years with' a' sinking fund of 2 per cent., but that debentures for £IOOO be met in ten years' time. The report was approved. _ The town clerk reported that tho Municipal Association Conference would meet at Palmerston North early in February, and stating there were several remits that concerned the borough. The Mayor and the town clerk were ajppointed to attend the conference. In respect of the food regulation, the town clerk reported that the Health Department was bringing local retailers concerned under it. The Department had stated that the Council must register all persons who were granted licenses. It was decided to charge a license fee of 5s per annum; commencing from January Ist, .1927. It was decided to carry out the recommendation of the Heajth Department and take steps to destroy the rats in the borough.
