BLAZE AT AVONSIDE.
* POLICE SERGEANT'S HOUSE. The two rear rooms of a six-roomed house, 76 Patton street, Avonside, were destroyed by fire shortly before 2 o'clock yesterday morning. The house was owned and occupied by Charles Edward Eoach, the Senior-Sergeant of Police stationed at Christchurch. The fire started in the washhouso, and quickly spread to the two back rooms of the house. The two front rooms were saved by the brigade. No reason has been advanced for tho outbreak,' as it is said there had bean no fire in the washbouse since Monday. The building -was insured with the State Office for £SOO and the contents for £BSO.
