FALSE PRETENCES.
BY WELLINGTON CLERK. [THE PBBSS Bpeclal Berries.] WELLINGTON, January 20. That he obtained £6 from Frederick Felix Green by false pretences was admitted by Bertram Guy Randal), a clerk, in the Magistrate's Court, today. Chief-Detective Ward said that the accused had represented to Green that his brother had a motor-car which he would sell for £3O, and that if the two of them purchased it they could dispose of it at quite a handsome profit. Green advanced Randall £3 as bis share of the deposit >and was later given a receipt purporting- to be signed by the accused's brother. There was no motorcar, . however, and the accused had acted solely with the intention of defrauding the other man." Randall, who had never previously been before the Court, asked, for lenI iency. Mr E. Page, S.M., deferred sentence until to-morrow morning.
