"BEVERLY OF GRAUSTARK"
FURTHER DOINGS OP ROYALTY.*
Records of the activities of Graustarkian royalty are always welcome since George Barr McCutcheon wrote* his romance of tho Crown Princess of that tiny principality and a certain dotermined American. It is all very dolightful frankly fictitious, amusing, exciting, and romantic. In "Beverly of Graustark," the sequel to the first story, which will open a season at Everybody's Theatre on Monday, the Bolsheviks take charge of affairs in that peaceful and, for »«•»*» tering, interfering people have a weakness for hiving a finger in everyone's and with sundry revolutions walk ng hand in-hand with the gentler aspects pleas ant life, the course of any good story neces sarily assumes exceedingly promising dimensions. In no respects is tins pleasing play disappointing. For some inexphcablo reason the doings of royalty always possess an intense fascination for the democracy, or what passes for the democracy. It is thus in real life, in dramas, stage Pi** s - b °° k u 3 ' motion pictures, and the latter, blithely issuing from the land of the Almighty Doltar, generally come capriosioned . u sumptuous trappings and regal surroundings which only serve to enhance tho glamour and opulence of kings and princes. The story of Beverly, from the moment she sets foot across the border of Graustark, reads like a I***" 1 " 1 * colourful and thrilling romance. There js a surfeit of everything in her tale which stands for colour an-' sensation, ard being a spirited young lad} with a keen sense ot humour and an unconventional turn of nnnd sho throws the Bolsheviks and the K°> al *» into a ferment, retains the throne for the Trinccss in her own good way. daringly masquerades as a royal personage and returns to tho Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave a genuine princess, with a «"' *?„ coronet complete. A brave tale, a witty tale, with tho beauty and the gay usoleu" °j Marion Davies serving to invest theroieol Beverly with a piquant charm all its own. The story has a certain sparkle and snap imparted to some of its more intimate i scenes which show welcome freshness of both story and handling. Tho comedy is bright, vivacious, swift, and hilarious, and the drama is keen and gripping; tho whole subtle ensemMo of the production bears the imprint of a master mind. Supporting Marion Davies are Antonio Moreno, playing a colourful role in his customary dashing style, and Hoy P. Arcy ; all toothsomo smiles and suave villainies to create the necessary impression of a *'<£ ea pretender. The box plans open at Tho Bristol Piano Company this morning.
