OPEN VERDICT.
! SINGLE WOMAN'S DEATH. I [THE PEESB Special Service.] DUNEDIN, January 20. I An open verdict was returned at the adjourned inquest this morning on Maribel French Muirhead, whose death occurred on December 16th, as the result of her, being run over by a train on the Otago Central line. Tho Coroner, Mr H. W. Bundle, said that the evidence showed that Miss Muirhead was a single woman, 42 years of age, and that she had been in bad health for some time. The only evidence was that of the guard, which showed that she was the only passenger in the carriage adjoining tho van. The gangway and the rails between the van and car and the gates on the car were in good order, the gates being shut at tho time. It was impossible to say how Miss Muirhead's body got on to the track, whether she fell off the platform, or whether the mishap occurred as the indirect result of her bad health. An open verdict was returned that Miss Muirhead was killed at the Poolburn Gorge tunnel by being run over l>y a railway train on December 16th, the appurtenances of the carriage and van all being in Hood order, and there being no possible negligence on tho part of the Railwaj Department.
