NEW BRIGHTON GALA.

MEETING OP COMMITTEE. The final meeting of the New Brighton Gala Committee prior to the event was held in the Council Chamber last night, when the Mayor (Mr J. Gamble) presided over a good attendance. It was decided to engage the Christchurch Municipal Band for. both the day and night programme. > It was agreed that for" the children's gala queen competition the children competing should assemble at 2 p.m. and march to the Stadium, where the six finalists would be selected, while the name o£ the winnor would be announced on Monday evening. It was also agreed that all non-successful competitors be handed a small present. . It was reported that final arrangements had been made with Mr Bickerton for the pyrotechnic display from the Pier, at 9 p.m., and with the Fire Brigade for the torchlight procession. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the C.A.A. Association in connexion with their effort in the matter of running a flat event at the, gala, the committee regretting that owing, to the lack of entries for the event it would not be held. The Tramway Board wrote stating that the usual concession would be given the committee. The Town Clerk stated that the necessary work in connexion with the roping-off of certain streets in order to avoid congestion of traffic would be attended to. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr and Mrs Brooks, members of the committee, conveying the sympathy of the committee with the latter in his sudden indisposition. The chairman roported that very complete arrangements were well in hand for the borough's annual festival, and that, given fine weather, there was every promise of the gala of 1927 being one of the most successful that bad ever been held.
