OBITUARY.
MR D. C. GUTHRIE. The .death occurred early yesterday morning of Mr Darrid Carew Guthrie, fourth son of the late Mr J S. Guthrie, for many years editor of tho Christchurch Press. . The late Mr D. 0. Guthrie was bom on Jiily 13th, 1887, at Fen4alton, and attended the Fendalton School and later the Boys' High School from 1899 to 1905. He comes of a family that has distinguished itself in all branches of sport, and he particularly _ distinguished himself in both athletics and football. In 1905 he won the Senior Championship at the Boys' High School, establishing a record for the 100 yards championship. He represented Canterbury in Rugby in all the during 1910 and 1911, and also the South Island. He took a leading part in the management of the Old Boys' Football Club, and also was very greatly respected by all those with whom he came in contact. He joined the 19th Reinforcements and left New Zealand as a sergeant, obtaining his lieutenancy at a later date. On his return from the war he took up farming on the West Coast, but owing to ill-health had to relinquish this pursuit. t He went into the Christ-church' Hospital some three years ago, and at one stage was well on the road.to recovery. On returning, however, from Rannerdale Home last year, where lie spent several months, his health again declined, and he passed away early yesterday morning He leaves many friends who will sincerely mourn lis loss.
His brothers are tho well-known architects, Messrs J. S. Guthrie andM. J. Guthrie, and his mother resides at Oarlton Mill road, Fendalton.
