"BEVERLY OF GRAUSTARK"
FURTHER DOINGS OF ROYALTY,
Records of the activities of Graustark.an rovaltr are always welcome since George Bart McCutchcon wrote his romance of the tro»n Princess of that tiny principalit" and a certain determined American. It > s all ver -' delightful, frankly fictitious, amusing, exciting, and romantic. In "Beverly of Granstark," tho sequel to the first story, which will open a season at Everybody's Theatre on Monday, the Bolsheviks take charge of affairß in that peaceful land, for these blus tcring, interfering reople have a '» ea " < V s for having a finger in everyone s pulituEi pie. and with sundry revolutions walking nana in-hand with the gentler aspects of a pi." /nt life, the course of any good story necessarily assumes exceedingly promising dimeo sions. In no respects is this pleasing play disappointing. For some inexplicable rea sou the doings of royalty always possess an intense fascination for the deraocracj, or what passes for tho democracy. " 'v"L in real life, in dramas, stage pls>s. book , motion pictures, and tho latter, blithely i-u ing from the land of the Almighty Uo. lar, generally come capriosioned in E « m P tu °'•; trappings and regal surroundings, which oulj serve to enhance the glamour and °P»>«» ce ° f kings and princes. The story of Beverly, from tho moment she sels foot across the border of Graustark, reads like a particular!} colourful and thrilling romance. I hero »> surfeit of everything in her tale, V' mc " stands for colour am - sensation, and being » spirited voung lady with a keen sense 01 humour and an unconventional turn ot mine,, she throws the Bolsheviks and, the loyalists into a ferment, retains the throne for tue Princess in her own good way, daringly masquerades as a royal personage, and returns, to tho Land of the Free and the Homo of the Brave a genuine princess, with a crest and coronet complete. A brave talc, a witty tale, with the beauty and tho gay insolence of Marion Davics serving to invest the role of Bcverlv with a piquant charm all its own. T)io story has a certain sparkle and snap imparted to some of its more intimate scenes, which show welcome freshness of both story and handling. The comedy is bright, vivacious, swift, and hilarious, and the drama is keen and gripping; the whole subtle onserable of the production bears the imprint of a master mind. Supporting Marion Davies ayo Antonio Moreno, playing a colourful role in his customary dashing style, and Koy D Arcy, all toothsome smiles and suave villainies to create the necessary impression of a wicked pretender. The box plans open at Tho Bristol Piano Company this morning.
