Magistrate's Court. Mr H. A. Young, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. John Edward Coad applied for cancellation of arrears of maintenance amounting to £4O in respect of a child in the care of the Education Department. The arrears to date were cancelled. Thomas Radcliffe, 85 years of age, for entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, was convicted and discharged. John Cullen, who-did not appear, was charged with being found on licensed promises on Sunday, January oth. He was convicted and fined £2 and costs. Thomas Finnie and William McMoran were charged with being found on licensed promises on Christmas Day. They pleaded guilty, and were each fined 20s and 7s costs. Robert Falloon, who had beon remanded for modical treatment, pleaded not guilty to a charge of helpless drunkenness at Governor's Bay. He pleaded guilty, however, to a charge of having procured liquor during tho currency of a prohibition order. . Falloon was' convicted on both charges. Asked by tho Magistrate if he intended to continuo breaking his order, Falloon said he had nevor signed any order. Tho Magistrate pointed out that the order was made by the Court. "Funny laws in this country," muttered Falloon. On the chargo of drunkenness accused was ordered to pay modical expenses 17s 6d, and car hire 15s, in default four days' imprisonment. For the broach of his order he was fined £5, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Sandors Cup, There was a good attendance at a public meeting culled by tho Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) and held in the Council Chfmbors last overling, to arrango to raise funds for tho entertainment of visiting yachtsmen during Sanderß Cup week. Tho Mayor explained that it was desired that Lyttciton should furnish a satisfactory proportion of tho sum was £350, which was estimated to bo necessary for the proper entertainment of (ho visitors. A programme had been drawn up by the Yachting Association and it included a civic recoption at Lyttelton, the entertainment of the visitors by tho Canterbury Yacht Club, and a function for tho presentation of the cups. Although Lyttelton waa the chief port of Canterbury and the place where the contest was to bo hold, Christchurch was the capital of the province, and Lyttelton and Christchurch must work together. Among tho chief items of expenditure would be tho provision of a launch to accompany each competitor, and ono or two launches for the officials. Mr M. J. Miller said the Board ,would make a display of bunting, and on the opening day the tug Lyttelton would bo out with gucßts of tho Board. Mr A. K. Smith said that some of the ladies of Lyttolton had proposed that the visitors should be entertained at a moonlight picnio at Diamond Harbour on the Thursday. The band could be engaged, there would be a full moon, and dancing could bo held. Mr W. T. Loster, chairman of the Yachting Association, said 'the most important thing was the raising of funds. They should bo careful about arranging additional functions, as such would have to be approved by the Association. It had been suggested that tho entertainment should be confined to two big functions, one at Lyttelton and one at Christchurch, and that the visitors should bo loft free as muoh as possible for private entertainment. In reply to a question, the Mayor said that tho monoy raised at the recent carnival was to bo used by the Canterbury Yacht Club for its entertainment of the visitors, and' also for tho expenses of the Cornwell Cup, which wa« entirely in the club's hands. It was decided to canvass the port for subscriptions, and Messrs W. T. Lester, B. Rhind; and M. J. Miller were appointed collectors. Those present were formed info a commilteo to organise functions to raise further funds. /
