GREY POWER BOARD.
■-——♦ ORDINARY MEETING. (special to thf pbbss.) GHEYMOUTH, January 19. Uio ordinary meeting of tho Groy Electric lower Board, was hold this evening. Those present were: Messrs J. W. Greensladc (chairman), D. Tcunent, C. Uddßtrom, a.. Uuggan, J. Mulcaro, J. O'Brien, W. Clayton, and A. Robinson. The eeoretary (Mr A. J. McDowull) waa appointed to attend tho Tower Boards Association's conference in Palnioreton North on i ebruary 3rd. The secretary of the Wcstland Power Board wrote advising that his Board had decided to take over tho Kuraara water-race, and that the required deposit would be paid at an early date. It waa decided to reply that the Board raised no objection, but to draw its attention to the arrangement to supply tho Board with 500 kilowatts at Government rates, should the Grey Board .equire it. Mr Robert Stewart, owner of tho Coal Creek' Brewery, requested compensation from tho Board for running their transmission linos across bis freehold -land at Coal Creek. Ho asked the Board to appoint an arbitrator to go into the question with ono whom ho would appoint. The Board agreed to consider the question and further advise Mr Stewart. It was decided to appoint tho Public Trustee as the Board's sinking fund commissioner. Tho engineer reported that 'during tho month tho high tension line between Pa-roa and Cainorona was surveyed and peggfd off, and a etart made on the erection of a transmission line. It was hoped to complete this wouk at an early date, and in the meantime arrangements were being made to canvass the various consumers along this route, to enable supply to bo given at as early a date as possible. It was expected that supply would be available in the Blackball district within a fortnight. Arrangements were being mado to connect up the consumers, of which there will be in the neighbourhood 150 ready to take supply immediately the current is available. Steps were being taken to protect the powerhouse foundations from further flood erosion by constructing reinforced concrete work round the intake and a protecting covering and wall to protect tho pump-house itself. During the past month the load on the powerhouse had been curtailed to a great extent, due to tho holidays interv«ning, and also the loss of the Dobson mine as a consumer. During tho month 38 new consumers had been connected, making the total number of consumers connected to the supply 670. "ho connected load waa as follows:—Motors 1258 h.p., lighting 292 kw., ranges 15 kw., waterheaters 8 kw., heaters and irons 265 kw. The report was adopted. The matter of arranging an official ceremony on the ocasion of the svfitching on oi the current at Blackball was left : n Ihe hands of the engineor and Messrs Mulcare and Clayton. „ It was decided to accept the tender of Mr P. Finlayson, of Invercargill, for the ejection of a high tension lino from Bwiiner to Ngahere, at a cost of £1458. The *or!t will be put in hand at the beginning ot next month.
