TURF GOSSIP. Nominations close to-morrow for the Poverty Bay Turf Club's Summer Meeting. Acceptances close to-morrow for the Takapuna Jockey Club's Summer ingIt. is understood that if F. D. Jones patronises the Kandwick Meeting at Easter, A, H. Driscoll, the Auckland apprentice, will accompany him to do the light-weight riding. If The Hawk's form is pleasing at the Wellington Meeting, it is probable that his owner-trainer, J. M. Cameron, will take him across to Sydney for the Autumn Meeting.
Ono of the latest additions to the active brigade at Ellerslie is a three-year-old gelding by Thurnham from JSgariki. The newcomer will be prepared by A. Julian, whose mixed team of gallopers and trotters is fairly large at present. Royal Lineage, the two-year-old by Limond from Royal Exchange, has been sold through T. S. Eoulston's agency, and in future will be trained by P. Neagtc. Eoyal Lineage was bought as a yearling by J. Low, Mr G. M. Currie's ■tud groom, and it is understood the price at which he has turned over his purchase is a satisfactory one. Haiti, who has had a lengthy let-up, has been taken in hand again, and is now a member of P. Neaglc's team at Taradale.
Hytroth (Hymcstra—Troth) has arrived at Flemington from New Zealand. Sho is in charge of H. Butcher. Twelve months ago, as a two-year-old, sbe had two races at Wairarapa, but was unplaced. "While working steadily on the sand at Ellerslie a few days ago, something went wrong with Katoa, and ho suddenly went very lame. It is surmised that he has broken a small bone somewhere near his loins and it is possible that he. mav have to be destroyed. Ratoa is a five-year-old gelding by Spalpeen that has not raced, and was being developed for the jumping busincs" Before the name Katoa was' registered, he was known to trackwatchers as Larry. His trainer; 11. Hastedt, is unable to account,'for the mishap, as the horse did not ;fall.
On last Jockey Club Stakes day, at Palermo (Buenos Aires), the pari mutucl investments were £272,122. It sounds a big sum (remarks the Sydney "Refere6")> but as all course business is done through the pari mutuel, it would ho small by comparison with the turnover of the books and totalisator combined on a big day at Eandwick. For instance, totalisator investments - at Bandwick last Derby Day totalled £98,440, .and that was completely dwarfed.by the amount turned over by the books.

WELLINGTON CUP MEETING a TO-DAY'S PROSPECTS. [THE PRESS Special Serrict.] WELLINGTON, January 10. The weather still holds good for the 'Wellington Cup Meeting to-morrow, and unless there is a very radical change the track will be hard and fast. There aro no startling cleventlihonr developments in connexion with the principal races, except that Comic Song and Lady Cavendish are possible non-starters in the Telegraph Handicap. Both of the big races are very open, and betting will take a wide range. Backers of the Rapine-Star Stranger bracket in the Cup should get a great run for their money, while Footfall and Hynanna have both good form and good track work to recommend them. Post positions will count a goad deal in the Telegraph, Fitzherbert, and Kuapehu Handicaps. The Telegraph Handicap field is extra good, and the light-weights look like setting the cracks an impossible task. Licinius, Paperchase, and Mimetic may do best. Some smart two-year-olds will, run in the Fitzherbert Handicap, in which public form points to Melissa, Thaw, and Pantler. The High-weight Handicap should see Mint Leaf, Benanee, and Outfit in a favourable light. Lysander, Limited, and High Finance will set a torrid pace for the five furlongs of the Wellington Stakes. If a surprise eventuates, Silver Mine looks the medium. Ho is good Stormy is all the rage for the Apprentices' Plate, and it is difficult to pick ono to beat him. . Centrepiece may be troubled most by King the Bell in the Anniversary Handicap. In the concluding event, Kilmczzo, Some Lad, and Dimmer may do best.
