NEW CONDUCTOR.
ROYAL MUSICAL SOCIETY. The following circular, signed by W. W. Gibson, G. O. Garriock, and A. Menzies, has been issued to members of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society :
"Tbo committee" of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society has appointed Mr Griffiths as conductor of the Society for the ensuing year. "No indication of this proposed drastic change was given to members of the committee in the circular convening the meeting, and we understand that the proposal was carried by a very small majority. "Mr Griffiths is under engagement to the Education Board, and wo understand that he has just left England for New Zealand. _ "While admitting the committee s riffht to select a conductor, we maintain that a very grave injustice has been done to Mr Williamson, whose undoubted musical ability has been responsible for the very marked improvement in the choral work of the Society—the choral work being his particular responsibility.'' . The circular states, that a special meeting of members of the Society will to discuss the matter.
