KAIAPOP'S CONCERN.

RIVER BANKING. After receiving a deputation from ratepayers of the Camside district last evening, the Kaiapoi Borough Council passed a resolution to the effect that it viewed with concern the effect at flood time of an embankment in Baker's paddock, and it asked the "Waimakariri River Trust to allow its engineer to go to Kaiapoi to explain the whole scheme.

The deputation waited upon the Council with reference to the work of the Trust on the south bank of the north branch, and stated that it considered the banking was a menace to houses and property in the vicinity. The Council was asked to ascertain from the River Trust the ultimate programme of river protection to be carried out adjacent to the borough.
