BOROUGH COUNCILS.

KAIAPOI. The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr H. Mcintosh). Crs. K. J. Dunn, J. \V. Barnard. J. Hirst, F. Thome, W. H. Stark, K. F. Joyce, and W. A. Young. 'A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr ,7. H. Blackwell and family on the death of Mrs Biackwell. The District Traffic Manager. New Zealand Railway*, wrote with reference to the Christ-church-Parnassus train stopping ut Kaiapoi. and advised that as a fast, punctual run was necessary, and the train was primarily put on for the conveyance of long-distance passengers, the number of passengers offering at Kaiapoi did not warrant a ston. Ho was therefore unable to accede to the request.— The County Clerk, Eyre County Council, wrote suggesting that n conference be held between the County ami the Borough Councils with reference to the absorption wit,hin the borough of all the built-on area adjoining Peraki street. Willed: street, and the North road, now in the Eyre County. The transfer was considered the best solution of the drainage question as suggested by the Health Department. It was resolved to agree to the holding of a conference at an early date. The Kniraki Lessees' Association wrote drawing the attention of the Council to the condition of the road at tho end of tho Poplar avenue, and asked that a request be made to the controlling authority to have the road put in order. Tho Association also drew attention to the washing away of the embankment on the river-front, and suggested that much valuable clay could be saved by carting back to where the new bank was to be erected. It was decided to ask the Rangiora County Council to keep their portion of tho Beach road in order. Applications were received from tho following to rent sections at "The Pines": Mrs M. Barratt, section No. 65; Mr H. Farrier, section No. :18; G. Hirst, section No. 64. The applications were granted. The Royal Reception Committee advised that it was hoped to include a stay of live minutes at Kaiapoi on the occasion of their Royal Highnesses' visit to Amberley. Tho Mayor of Christchurch wrote asking to be advised of the amount the Council proposed to give to the Royal Reception Entertainment Fund. H was resolved to give £ 10. Tho Mayor of Christchurch also forwarded copy of the address to be presented to his Royal Highness the Duke of York on tho occasion of the visit for the Council's approval.—Approved. An application was received from the director, Kaiapoi Technical Classes, for the Council's annual contribution in support of the classes.

Tho matter was deferred until the next meeting of the Council.
