LISBON, January 16,

Jose Dacosta, who assassinated President Sidonio Paes in 1918, has been arrested at Oporto. [The fourth President of Portugal, Senhor Sidonio Paes, was assassinated at a Lisbon railway station at midnight on December 14th, 1918. As the President was entering the station a shot was fired on his right. He turned in that direction, and two more shots were fired, wounding 4im mortally. The assassin escaped badly wounded, but an accomplice was arrested, who confessed that the perpetrator of the outrage belonged to the Republican League of Youth. Evidence was later secured of a carefully-laid plot backed by Masonic influences.]
