It is impossible for me to impose a fine 'hi this case," said Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., when llussell Sydney Diamond;; a carpenter, aged 20, admitted the theft of tools worth £o 19s 6d belonging to Charles Baker and others. Chief-Detective Ward stated that the accused had been employed as a carpenter oil tho new A.M.P. building until the middle of December, when he left the job. On January 7th he returned and stole the tools from other men's boxes. All the missing articles had beeii recovered, however. Diamond was before the Court last July, when he was admitted to probation for three years on two charges of theft. , • ■ The Magistrate imposed a sentence of one month's imprisonment.
