NEW BRIGHTON.
BOKOUGH COUNCIL MEETS. Last night a meeting of the. New Brighton Borough Council was held. Present The Mayor {Mr J. Gamble), and Crs. E. A. M. Leaver, J. H. Shaw, F. Ward, J. C. Scott, If. Sncll, V. W. Jluirson, T. Kobins, and J. McCreaiior. The. Post and Telegraph Department wrote stating that authority had already been received for the establishment of public call offices at the. corner of Rookwood avenue and Kucccoursc road, and Richmond terrace and Jetvoia street, and that the Department was making every endeavour to expedite tho making of new types of cabinet, and that the work would be put in hand as early as possible. The letter was received. Permission was granted the Xew Brighton Gala Committee to control the foreshore on January '22 nd, Gala Day. The Finance Committee recommended that a, dog tax collector be appointed, and that the appointment be left in the hands of the Mayor and Crs. Shaw and Leaver. It was recommended by the Summer Programme Committee- that the Council confirm the granting of permission to tho Tennyson street Congregational Sunday School to hold a picnic in Eawhiti Domain on February 12th. Reports were adopted. Regarding the Pleasant Point bridge, tho engineer in charge (Mr Freeman) submitted a progress report on the work being done.
