EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. ANNUAL CARNIVAL HELD. In splendid rather on Saturday afternoon the East Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club held its annual carnival at the East Christchurch School baths. Some fine performances were put up. particularly in the •J-iOvdg men's championship in which Lindsay lowered the record. He did the distance in smin 4Uec, as against the tuna of K. Ladies' Diving Championship—Miss L. Copplestone 1, Mrs T. Thompson 2. At the close of the programme Mr M. E. Lyons, president of the Canterbury Centre of tho New Zealand Amateur Swimimng Association, presented the Harris Cup to R. Wheeley. of the United Club. He congratulated the club on its win, after a clean, sporting contest, and asked all swimmers to attend at the railway station to-morrow evening to give a 6cnd-off to the Canterbury team, which is leaving to contest tho New Zealand championships at Auckland. •
