FIRE AT GREYMOUTH.
HEAVY DAMAGE TO DRAPER'S j STOCK. (PRESS association telegram.) • GREYMOUTH, January 14. A fire in McGruer's drapery establishment, Mawhera Quay, at 9 p.m., gutted the building, destroying stock worth about £12,000, and badly damaging the building, which was owned by Mr McKay of Christchurch, and was worth about £6OOO. Several surrounding buildings such as the National Bank, Ashby. Bergh, and Co., and Larken's Bakerv had a narrow escape, the location of the fire being in the centre of a block. The insurances are not yet available.
