Many places had been suggested, including the Avon, Corsair Bay, and Kairaki. . Discussion of the site for the regatta took place, some members expressing themselves in favour of Kairaki as the best place for obtaining a "gate" "We've tried'practically every place, said a member,* 'and- we've always come back to Lake Forsyth." •. - , Mr 6 H Hobbs moved that the regatta should be held at Kairaki MrF..W. M. Cowlishaw seconding the motion. Mr F M Hobbs drew attention to the Railway' Department's letter offering to run a special train to Lake Forßyth. the club would share in the takings- from the trip. A member suggested that people would rather go to Kairaki beach, by motor-car. Mr G. H. Hobbs: They shou d all leave their cars at home and go by train. It was resolved to hold the regatta on February 19th at Kairaki THE PROGRAMME. ■ . Mr W. Diiggan moved that the programme should bo the same as last year, except that clinker boats should be used instead of best and best, in the senior fours. ; An amendment by Mr' Cowlishaw that best and best, boats should be used for the senior fours, aB hitherto, was carried. The prize money was made the same as for last year totalling £lOl. It was resolved to 1 have the course marked out by a surveyor. FOURS OR EIGHTS ?

Mr I'. D. Kesteven, the well-known rowing enthusiast, said yesterday that the eightoared ' rowing wou'd ruin the - local Rowing Centre, as good men would be dropping out of the four-oared boats to transfer to the eights. In addition, it would be a difficult matter to house the vessels or to find a suitable course for them. It would bo impossible to row eights on the Avon, because even the lower roaches of the stream and the estuary itself were affected' by tidal waters. Redcliffs was badly affected by the tide, and also by sand banks and spits, and at Corsair Bay there was an easterly wind to be taken into consideration. Kairaki was quite unsuitable for the purpose. There was, in fact, only one course that was possible for eights —Lake Forsyth—and that was 20 miles away. Up to the present there had been practically no eight-oared racing in the Dominion, and owing to the season being so far advanced it was-unlikely that there would be anything done with the new boats at present. So far as eight-onred racing was' concerned, Canterbury was situated worst of all of the provinces. EIGHTS FOR OTAGO. [THE PEESS Special Service.] DUNEDIN, January 14. Two eight-oared boats for tho Otago Rowing Association are aboard the Kemuera. One will be left at Port Chalmers, and the other will be brought to Dunedin. The arrival of these boats will mean an interesting link with the past for in Otago harbour in the earlier days some thrilling eight-oared contests were rowed. At the New New Zealand championship regatta rowed in Otago harbour in 1898 there Was an eightoared race between an Otago crew and a crew composed of Canterbury and North Island men. Otago won. This was the last eightoare'd conteEt rowed here. UNION ROWING CLUB. The following are the results of the LiieMembers' Cup race: — R Lo»an and 0.. Anderson defeated F. Sierakowski and J.-O'Reilly.
