The Government's part in decorating the City for the visit of. the Duke and Duchess of York has now been settled. ~ ... „,;ii An effective scheme of be carried out on the west side (that facing the Cathedral) of the Govern, ment buildings, and the Post Office. The Provincial Chambers will be hung with bunting. . , A Union Jack in coloured lights and a crown of gold light surmounting the building will be the outatanding effects on the Government buildings. lne whole face of the offices will be outlined in red, white, and blue lamps, and red lanterns are to be hung at the entrance to the foyer. Flags are to be j flown from the threes flagpoles and drapea in other places, and the balcony wiU be illumined and decorated with trees and bunting. „ ' •„ The two sides of the Post Office will be outlined in red, whit©, and blue lighting also, from the first floor, and an electric star affixed to the fineal of the Post Office tower. Round the clock's faces a circle of lights will show. From the tower to the corners of the building streamers of bunting and lights will be stretched, and on each side a gold crown in lights, posted together with the' Royal "G.R." Mr P. H. Hyndman, Public Works Department foreman, who is in charge of the decorative scheme, has already commenced to make ready to carry out the work. The first scheme submitted to the Head Office at Wellington was of a different order. It was a suggestion that the buildings should hi gaily decorated with streamers of red, white, and blue, and bunting, the whole illumined with flood lighting. The Wellington however,, preferred to retain the system of lighting which ha 3 been used on preivious occasions. DISPLAYS AT AUCKLAND. [THE FBESS Special Service] AUCKLAND, January 14. School children to the number of about 15,000 will welcome the Duke and Duchess of York on Wednesday, February 23rd, when a great massed display will take place in the Domain. The Boy Scouts and Girl Guides will have a prominent part in the spectacle. Special illuminations will make the Town Hall brilliant during the evening hours of the Eoyal visit. It has been decided to abandon the old scheme of picking out the lines and facades of the building in thousands of small electric bulbs. That system, said the Mayor, though effective, was not as arresting as a scheme of flood lighting would be. asd it had been decided that the whole of the Town Hall would be vividly lit by means of huge flood lights.
