BACKWARD STATE.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S TROUBLES,
(BT CABLE-PBESS ASSOCIATION—COFYBIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATIOK.)
MELBOURNE, January 11
Addressing the first general conference of the United Party, Senator Lynch said that he believed that West Australia, as it is situated to-day, in a backward state of development, would continue to remain a tributary State of the federal system unless there was a more friendly attitude towards this undeveloped third of Australia by the Federal authorities. Any action short of open rebellion or open disruption would be fully justified. To proceed as a vassal State was impossible. He favoured stern action, something that would make the Eastern people take notice.
